Conduct a Needs Analysis

Just because you say you need a site, that doesn’t mean the needs analysis is done. The needs analysis is more than that. It is about identifying what is needed and why. The needs analysis is the first step in defining the scope of site and scope of work that will be needed to develop and maintain the site.

At the end of this chapter, the planner should be able to

  • Recognize there are different types of sites
  • Recognize a site is not the only way to reach a goal
  • Recognize not all sites need to be in a content management system
  • Describe how a competitive analysis can help with the planning process.
